A Life Remembered

Obituary

Scott R. Stiers, born June 22, 1949, passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2026, at age 77 after a brief illness. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as a young man spent 6 years cruising around South America and the Mediterranean as a U.S. Navy fire control systems technician. He moved to Phoenix in 1977, and after prescreening his in-laws, Scott met his wife Alicia in 1978, and they married in 1980. Retiring from Arizona State University as a computer systems programmer in 2007, Scott led an active life filled with many hobbies and related toys, including amateur astronomy, online racing and flight simulators, piano and keyboards, and a ham radio license. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.

Scott is survived by his wife Alicia, sister Malinda, brother William and several nieces and nephews (and Max the dog). Funeral services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at a date to be determined.

Messages of Love

From family and friends

I loved to hear about Scott's stories of looking at stars. Being out in the desert at night. Then Racing his car simulator and the Plane simulator. I think it was during Covid. He invited me over to the house where I saw the miniature observatory with the dog sleeping inside. It was very cool. I always looked forward to his next great adventure and the story to go along. Thank You Alicia for giving me a chance to honor him. I will miss him too. He was a great guy and a good friend.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague, Scott Stiers. Scott was someone we had the privilege of working with at ASU, sharing many musical jams, and enjoying a wonderful Alaska cruise with Scott and Alicia. We will always remember his friendship, his love of music, the sky, and the good times we shared together. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Alicia, his family, and all who knew and loved Scott. We are grateful for the memories.

Scott was a great guy and a good neighbor for 26 years, always fun to stop him on the way to the mailbox for a good neighborhood gossip and chat! He was great at sharing those neighborhood grrrrr moments…like the neighborhood bright street lights and trees messing up his stargazing. He will be sorely missed! Alisha I am very sorry for your loss I know how sudden it all was. If there is anything I can do or you need anything at all, I am right next door!
