About Peggy Arlene Rhoton

Peggy Arlene Cardon Rhoton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on September 24, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by family.

Peggy was born on September 3, 1944. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, love, and devotion to her family. She was a wonderful example to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many others whose lives she touched. She had a generous heart and spent her life caring for, serving, and supporting those around her.

Peggy was raised in El Paso, Texas by Lester LaVon Cardon and Elios Romeny Cardon. In 1964, Peggy met Walter “Wally” Nelo Rhoton while attending Brigham Young University after the two were set up on a blind date by Wally’s sister, Shirley. They were married in August 1964. They later continued their education at Arizona State University. Together, Peggy and Wally built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love.

Peggy and Wally raised five children: Derick (Jill), Kimber (Wade) Williams, Devin (Tiffany), Kerri (Chad) Vannucci, and Daniel (Aja). Peggy and Wally also welcomed June Soto (Greg) Smith, as a cherished member of their family for whom they became legal guardians.

Peggy found great joy in being a mother and later a grandmother (43) and great-grandmother (48). Her family was one of the greatest blessings of her life, and her influence will continue through the generations that follow her. She was always reminding her children and grandchildren to “Count Your Many Blessings” and it was her favorite hymn.

Peggy worked as a kindergarten teacher for more than 20 years and loved being around and helping children. Faith and service were also important parts of Peggy’s life. In addition to serving in various church callings, Peggy and Wally served for many years as an assignment in the Grand Canyon Branch and then in 2016 they served a year-long mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fort Worth, Texas. Following their mission, they returned to San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wally, who passed away in December 2020 after 56 years of marriage. While her family will miss her deeply, they find peace and comfort in their faith and in the thought of Peggy and Wally being reunited once again.

Peggy leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, service, and, above all, a love for her family. Her example and influence will continue to be felt by her children, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday the 10th, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building on 39477 N. Kenworthy Rd. San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Flower arrangements may be sent to Gilbert Memorial Park Services at 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, AZ 85297. Following the funeral services, Peggy will be interred at San Tan Memorial Gardens. The Rhoton family is grateful for the love, prayers, kindness, and support they have received during this time.
