Hey pumpkin,
Wanna know what’s crazy?
Your Dad & Stepmom, lol 😂
I had the amazing pleasure of meeting them at my restaurant Singing Pandas Asian Restaurant & Bar in Chandler while they were eating lunch.
They had been in before but we had never met until this one day I want to say April early May?
Well let me tell you, we instantly bonded, had a great visit with dynamic conversation about their food truck, your Dad’s culinary experience, the restaurant, our food, their food, the great vibes, and how comfortable we all felt in each others company.
I mean so comfortable, your Dad asked if he could come in one day to intern and observe my Chefs prep & Wok as he was a bit rusty in that area.
He showed up, observed, took mental notes and Isaac, if you could’ve seen your Dad’s face when my cousin Tommy gave him a stern look and told him to take over the Wok.
Your Dad obliged and jumped right in, took control of the Wok and
flipped that fried rice like hot jumping beans.
Chinese proverb: You must Wok before you Run.
Fast forward May 25th, Jessie who I now call Duckie (later explained) & Christina last minute agreed to be extras in a small movie production that began filming on location (restaurant) on our one and only closed day at 06:30 which happened to be the very day I turned 62.
Since we had just recently met, I was prepared not to see them but they were there bright and early & according to them, enjoyed every minute of that long 12 hour day.
The Writer / Director AP who also owns a food truck had asked me prior what I wanted him to prepare, to which I replied, “Soul Food”.
He’s Black and I’m Chinese so with confusion he replied, “oh okay”
That man came with Greens, Chicken, Sweet Potatoes and so much more.
They also threw me a surprise party and I had the rare pleasure and best time of my life celebrating with strangers and now new friends.
Lunch was around noon and hunger was starting to set in as we were still filming.
Your awesome Dad & S’Mom ran home, grabbed ingredients, prep’d and prepared dinner for the entire group.
WHO DOES THAT?
Duckie & Christina.
The next day, your Dad called to extend me an invitation to be part of their team for the upcoming Culinary Fight Club Burger Challenge, in Pennsylvania come September.
I said, “YES” to the dress,
I mean, “YES” to Jess.
Next, they come in to support my small business in Chandler on a Wednesday when I host Singo Bingo and gifted me a beautiful Asian Sword.
A short time went by and while we all have to run our businesses I still received phone calls from your Dad just to keep in touch.
The next call I received would be from your S’Mom advising me of the their unexpected & sad loss…You
My heart sank.
My eyes swelled up.
Then silence.
My demeanor changed.
My composure grounded.
“How’s Jessie” I asked?
Her reply, “he checked out.”
I then ask, “How are you holding up?”
The only thing I heard next were tears streaming down her beautiful face.
After this long pause of tears, I would then receive the emotional truth from a very strong woman, child of God and the confusion of a woman who cared for you, mentored you, heard you, valued you, cherished you and loved you.
I heard a very strong woman with broad shoulders, child of God, keeper of calm, keeper of composure, keeper of pain, keeper of function, keeper of responsibility so that others may grieve after losing you here on Earth.
Later that day my cousin prepared your Dad’s favorite dishes taking delicate care of his dietary needs and made certain my daughter Madi and I didn’t go empty handed for our visit.
Once there, long embracing hugs were given and received while condolences were shown.
Then with enSUSIEasm I told your Dad we now have duck on the menu. Then I removed a large yellow, squishy, slow rising duck from the bag for him to squeeze, pull, stretch to support his level of pain, anxiety and stress.
Later that evening after closing the restaurant, two of my daughter’s, Jess & Madi joined me to bring dessert from Andy’s frozen custard.
Okay so I also left my sunglasses there earlier.
When we got there, your Dad was still holding the duck and leaned he hadn’t put it down since receiving it.
That’s when I dubbed him Duckie and the name just stuck and it rhymes with duck, lol 😆
Saturday June 27th they needed to get out of the house so they came to the restaurant and that’s when I had the pleasure of meeting your Aunt, Uncle and cousins.
Dad was still grieving and quiet so at the end of our first show, we shared what happened and took to prayer with all the guests that were present that night.
PTL! Praise The Lord~
Every single person took to prayer.
SIN: Strength In Numbers
Every prayer was received and sent your way.
Sunday June 28th a more recent customer of mine, husband & wife came for lunch to celebrate a birthday with a group (Commission Church) who asked if I had any prayer requests so we prayed for y
