About Cecil Eugene Calvert

Cecil Eugene Calvert of Gilbert, AZ, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2026. Cecil was born in Cairo, IL, to Orville and Mable Calvert on February 1, 1957. He grew up in Delray Beach, FL, and married his high school sweetheart, Karen, shortly after she turned 18. They have been inseparable ever since.

The joy of his life was his children, Chris, Colin, and Leah, and later, his grandchildren. He spent his earlier years cheering on his boys’ baseball games, watching his favorite sports teams, reading, and taking annual anniversary road trips with Karen. Later in life, he became known as Pastor Cecil. He led mission trips serving the people of Guatemala, ministered to people and helped them understand who they truly are in the eyes of their Savior, Jesus Christ; this was his true mission. Cecil was full of faith, slow to anger, humble, honoring of other and a spiritual father to many.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen; his children, Chris (Tia) Calvert, Colin (Rachel) Calvert, and Leah (Edgar) PerezValerio; his beloved grandchildren, Claire, Nolan, Roscoe, Jackson, and Ruby; his three brothers, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Cecil is preceded in death by his father, his mother and his four sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 6th, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Vida Church, 319 N 64th St, Mesa, AZ. All who knew him are welcome to join.

Flowers may be sent to the church. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes monetary gifts to assist Karen with unexpected expenses during this difficult time. Remaining funds will be gifted to a ministry serving communities in Guatemala that was near and dear to Cecil’s heart. Donations may be sent via Venmo to @Karen-Calvert-21.

I have no words. I was already missing my friend! Karen, I am so sorry to hear this news. Cecil loved people well. He and Karen were there for us when we lost our son. Cecil loved well. A close friend, he and I explored what "all things are possible" meant together when we had a long few seasons of meeting weekly for coffee. Cecil was such an encouragement to me, he was so affirming to me. He was always talking about his love for his family and so proud to be a father and grandfather. A man close, very close with God.

Karen, I am so sorry to hear about Cecil. His mother and my mother were best friends and Lisa was my best friend in Mounds where we were neighbors. There were so many wonderful memories of playing in the neighborhood with Cecil, Kent, Lisa and David Eric. Please know that prayers for your family for comfort and peace are going up to our savior.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Cecil's passing. He was a godly figure in my life who encouraged me in the deep worship of our Lord and Savior. I fondly remember when he and his team visited for a week while I was studying at YWAM in Antigua, Guatemala. He was such an encouraging and loving man. May he now be rejoicing with the Lord. With sympathy, Erica Baron
