Amber Leigh Hansen

Amber Leigh Romney Hansen passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 45, after a courageous four-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer. Throughout her illness, she faced every challenge with faith, determination, and grace, leaving an enduring example of hope and resilience for all who knew her.

Amber was born on September 29, 1980, in Mesa, Arizona, into a loving home to her parents, Bill and Stephanie Romney. She was the oldest of four children and shared a close bond with her siblings, Amanda, Amelia, and Andrew. Family was a source of strength and joy throughout her life.

Amber earned a bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Development and a master’s degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. She devoted her professional life to serving others as a licensed therapist, specializing in counseling members of the Deaf community. Being Deaf herself, Amber had a deep love for the Deaf community and faithfully served individuals and families throughout Arizona, Utah, Maryland, and Texas. Her empathy, wisdom, and ability to connect with others blessed countless lives.

Amber was a devoted disciple of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life and was reflected in her joyful service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully as a Primary President, counselor in the Young Women presidency, and Relief Society President in both her local hearing ward and the Mesa Deaf Ward. She found great joy in ministering to others and helping them draw closer to the Savior.

Amber also loved to run. She was an accomplished marathon runner who qualified for the Boston Marathon and was the first female finisher of the Yuma Marathon. Her strength, perseverance, and determination on the racecourse mirrored the way she lived her life.

Above all, Amber cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Chris, and a loving mother to their four children: Addison (24), Halleigh (22), Tate (20), and Tagg (18). Some of her happiest moments were the simple ones spent together—watching true crime documentaries with her daughters, enjoying baking competitions with her sons, and looking forward to her weekly date nights with Chris. These treasured traditions reflected the deep love she had for her family and the joy she found in being together.

Amber’s kindness, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and genuine love for others touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of Christlike service, compassion, courage, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire her family, friends, colleagues, and the Deaf community she so dearly loved.

In the final week of her life, Amber was surrounded by the constant love and devoted care of her husband, Chris, their children, and her family. They tenderly cared for her day and night, ensuring she was never alone and that she was wrapped in the love she had so freely given throughout her own life. Their time together during those precious days became a sacred expression of the deep bonds they shared.

Family and friends are invited to attend a public viewing on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1865 S. Higley Road, Gilbert, AZ 85295.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, neighbors, church members, medical professionals, and loved ones who offered prayers, meals, encouragement, and compassionate care throughout Amber’s journey with cancer.

Though Amber’s earthly journey has ended, her influence lives on in the countless lives she uplifted through her faith, her service, her profession, and her love. She fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that through the Savior Jesus Christ and His Resurrection, they will be reunited with her again. Until that joyful day, she will be deeply loved, profoundly missed, and forever remembered.
